Junk Ice Maker

The refrigerator is top of the line but the ice maker is crap. It's constantly breaking. It won't really matter because they stop making this product and they won't upgrade the parts. The responses are computer generated, but it makes me feel better writing writing about it.

Love the Fridge and HATE the ice maker

I have had this GE Profile fridge for years and love everything about it but the ice dispenser is CRAP. The plastic drive cup must be replaced almost every 6 most after breaking apart. Why is this part not available as metal part?? it is the Achilles heel of this otherwise great product and makes it an embarrassing appliance.

Ice maker plastic piece

I just purchased this assembly a couple years ago and the plastic piece at the back that everyone else is talking about is the culprit. I purchased a complete set of Adora appliances at Home Depoy in 2006 and this is part of that set. I love everything about each piece and they are all going strong, but this ice maker replacement. Last time I buy the assembly. Next time I will buy a new fridge. And GE sold their appliance line to a Chinese company anyway, so I am unsure of the quality now with the new ones.

Consistently Breaks after 30days

The plastic connection that drives the auger assembly connects to a metal drive unit. That plastic connection fails regularly after a few weeks' use. I'm thoroughly disappointed and have made numerous repair requests. The process to have the parts replaced is painful.

Worst design ever

I have had this GE Profile refrigerator (PSS26NSTA SS) for 13 years. The ice maker has not worked properly for that amount of time. While under warranty, I had 3 repairmen attempt to repair it. Each stated that the ice maker is a poor design. The problem begins with the fact that the ice has to travel against gravity (up hill) to reach the dispenser port. The auger does not assist with this process. It merely moves the ice cubes to the sides of the bin where it freezes into a large mass of ice and makes the dispensing impossible. I have replaced (not a simple task) the plastic spool which turns the auger since it broke. Plastic was a poor choice
for this part. I chose the GE product because they are made in Louisville. I am fairly pleased with the 13 year performance of the product except for the ice maker.

Same problem as others accurately desribed

I have experienced the same failure issue with the Refrigerator Ice Dispenser and Augur assembly. This device fails every 3-5 years. I neither abuse the refrigerator nor the freezer section with the Dispenser assembly. One day, the device does not dispense ice cubes or shredded ice.
Unfortunately, this device is poorly fabricated that there should be such failure with it. I take no pleasure in presenting a negative review of this part. However, the rest of the refrigerator functions perfectly. Why could this part be a quality part that functions?
I would like a replacement assembly at a reasonable price that will endure!

Fails every few years; why can't an appliance last? Is it really so hard to fix a design flaw? All GE has done is lost my business when it comes time to replace my fridge.

Poor Quality Ice Bucket and Auger

I'm on my third ice bucket assembly for this top-of-the-line refrigerator I bought in 2005, and it has failed again. The auger seems to fail about every 3-4 years. Very substandard quality and design.

This is the third ice maker bucket this refrigerator has gone through sine 2007. And its the top of the line monogram series. GE's quality has declined to a new low. I will never buy anything made by them again. So sad as I grew up a GE Family and always bought their appliances.
